Grady R. Thompson is a native Texan, born in Houston, and reared in Corpus Christi. He attended Baylor University, earning a BBA in 1981, and his law degree in 1982. He was licensed in November 1982, and became Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 1993. He is admitted to practice in all state courts in Texas, as well as the Northern and Eastern United States District Courts, and the Fifth District Court of Appeals.
He moved his practice to Collin County in 1984. In Collin County, he has been active in the Collin County Bar Association, serving in various capacities, including president of the CCBA. He has served on the Board of the Collin County Bench Bar Foundation, serving as Chair of the foundation for multiple terms. He also served on the adjunct faculty at Collin County Community College, now Collin College, teaching an introductory legal course. In addition to his trial and appellate practice, he has maintained a limited general practice throughout his career.
He is married to Lee Thompson, a McKinney native, and has two children, a daughter Emily, and a son, Strother.
